The boys of summer

Summer has hit full force in Texas - it doesn't matter what the calender says. With temperatures hovering in the upper 90's - we are all looking for ways to stay cool. Danny's best friend Tex came over today, and the two of them broke out the slip and slide. The had such a great time!

More Choices

Thanks to all of you who weighed in on the other choices - please help me again. Still working on what my "signature design" is going to be - thankfully my new WACOM Bamboo tablet will help with this! Here is my latest problem... do I try and be the cool wildhairmama, or just use my plain old name? You choose:

Geocaching (verb)

Today we tagged along on a Geocaching expedition with our good friends from The Payne Chatlelaine.

Never heard of Geocaching? You are not alone. According to Wikipedia - "Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called "geocaches" or "caches") anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and "treasure," usually toys or trinkets of little value."

Basically it's good and wholesome family fun - well, it's fun when it's not 100 degrees outside.

Here are some photos from our jaunt.

My Name is Wildhairmama, and my son wears a purple belt....

.....no, you didn't just happen onto a support group blog! Wildhairboy earned his karate purple belt tonight. We've been attending weekly karate lessons and quarterly tournaments since September of his Kindergarten year - and it's been worth every minute. He LOVES karate, and has learned great lessons in self-control, self-defence and well as abduction prevention. Enjoy the photos (note: the little boy standing to the right of Danny in his group photo is one of his best buddies - and ironically the same age - I guess it's proof of growth hormones in non-organic food).

I should also say that Wildhairboy lost TWO teeth this week! Between doctor appoinments, prescriptions and burn first aid supplies and toothfairy money - it's been an expensive week - can you say OUCH?

What was your morning like?

Here is what happened to me.

Woke up to alarm at 5:45, realized that I was still sick (had been battling sinus gunkiness all weekend). Found my blackberry and emailed my office that I'd be late. Silly me thinking I'd be able to rest for a couple extra hours. 6:00 Wildhairman gets out of bed, into the shower and then into the kitchen to make his morning cup of joe. 6:30 Wildhairboy, who has decided he must sleep on the floor in my bedroom, wakes up to his Nintendo DS alarm - he was so excited that it finally worked. 6:35 commotion in the living room - Wildhairman in bathroom - water running. 6:40 Wildhairman comes in to alert me that he just spilled piping hot coffee all over his belly - it didnt look good. 7:00 first argument whether we should go to ER; 7:20 second argument ensued - he just didnt want to go. 7:30 drop off Wildhairboy at school, came home and Wildhairman met me at the door - he was ready to go.

By 7:50 we were in a bay and being seen by nurse. Dr comes in promises pain shot and tetanus shot - throughout the whole ordeal, I dont realize that I'm not feeling well, and it's not getting any better. By 8:25 Wildhairman riling in pain getting bandaged (2nd degree burns), and I'm in a cold sweat trying to not pass out or throw up or do both. Next thing I know I'm in a room down the hall laying on my back with a wet cloth on my head.

By 9:30 we were on our way home - me a little embarrassed, and Wildhairman happily doped up on hydrocodone. And here is where we will stay for the day.

I know that this is premature - but I do have a goal of turning my hobby of photography into a small business - and as such - I must BRAND myself :) At least that is what I learned today over on the Pay it Forward Photo Blog.

So, I need your help - what do you think of these?

This is my favorite (wildhairboy "created" the color in Photoshop):

Here is one of my earlier tries:

I'm feeling the first one more than the second, but I think there needs to be some design element to it. Tell me what you think! (ok, now I get to see if folks are really reading my blog).

let's hear it for the boy....

Today was one of those days that a mother looks to with both excitement and dread.... Wildhairboy participated in his 5th karate tournament today. He came in second place in the first 4 - something that has bothered him greatly. Thankfully the dojo we belong to holds what they call "winner tournaments" - all the kids come away with either a first or second place trophy. I think this is meant to soften the blow (pardon the pun) for the kids that don't excel in the sport as much as others. The ride home from the last tournament was gut wrenching - wildhairboy sobbed after "winning" his second place tournament. Being a caring mom, I tried to console him as much as I could - ended up giving up on trying to hug him happy, wiped the tears from my eyes and drove straight to McDonald's for ice-cream (I come from a long line of food pushers - it comes naturally).

Today I think both he and I were dreading the tournament (perhaps, I was more so dreading the ride home) - anywho.... the ride home from today's tournament was much different than the last. Wildhairboy won FIRST PLACE. I was so happy for him - my heart lept! I'm not a die-hard competitive person, but he is - he was so proud of himself, he was literally beaming!

Way to go wildhairboy! Mom loves you :)
